Assess, regroup and catch upWeek one of June was dedicated to assessing crop damage from the turbulent weather of late May. Fields dried enough for fieldwork, and most was dedicated to post-emergence spraying for within herbicide programs, and stand assessment to plan for potential replanting. Field crop specialists approximate replant acreage at 1 to 2 percent on average, with the most extensive damage on the Des Moines lobe area of north central Iowa and in river valleys. Potato leafhoppers have arrived in hayfields from southern overwintering sites.
