Impatiens Downy Mildew Confirmed in Iowa

This article was published originally on 8/29/2012

Impatiens downy mildew was confirmed in Iowa last week. Several samples of impatiens planted in a garden bed in Polk County were sent in to the Plant and Insect Diagnostic Clinic for confirmation.

Plants started showing yellowing leaves and in a matter of days started dropping their leaves, leaving bare stems behind. Impatiens downy mildew can spread readily to neighboring plants and beds. Suspect plants should be bagged and removed from garden as soon as possible. For more information visit the Horticulture & Home Pest Newsletter form June 27, 2012.
