Everything you always wanted to know about corn borers

The European corn borer can be a difficult insect to understand and manage. Fortunately, there is a new extension publication that can help provide answers. European Corn Borer: Ecology and Management was written by extension and research entomologists from nine states to answer many of the questions that people like yourself ask. It contains a wealth of information including insect biology and life cycles, how corn is damaged, scouting techniques, economic thresholds, host plant resistance, weather influences, cultural control tactics, biological control, and insecticide performance. It also contains nearly 50 color photographs and charts illustrating the insect, its damage, similar pest species, and natural enemies of the pest.

The publication is available for $5 from the ISU Extension Distribution Center, 515-294-5247. When calling, ask for NCR-327, the corn borer publication.

Information from the publication is also being integrated into the European Corn Borer home page.
