Check out weed management at field day

Research plots that show various weed management systems and performance of experimental herbicides will be open to visitors at the ISU Curtiss Farm during the annual weed science field day on June 19. The field day will begin with 8 a.m. registration, followed by a program with brief remarks by faculty, graduate students, and staff working on the various projects. The plots will be open for self-guided tours throughout the rest of the day. Staff also will be available to answer questions.

This year's research includes evaluations of experimental herbicides, management systems in herbicide-resistant crops, herbicide/insecticide interactions, weed management in several tillage systems, and investigations of herbicide application timing. The $20 registration fee includes a luncheon program, beverages, and a publication with descriptions of each research project. Although the field day is designed for industry representatives, agronomists and crop consultants, growers and other interested individuals are welcome to attend.

For more information, contact Mike Owen at the Department of Agronomy, 515-294-1923. Pre-registration is not required. The Curtiss Farm is on South State Street in Ames.
