Soil fertility specialist named

Dr. John E. Sawyer has been appointed associate professor in the Department of Agronomy, effective August 1, 1998. Dr. Sawyer's responsibilities will include providing leadership for extension programs in soil fertility and nutrient management. His office is located in 2104 Agronomy Hall and his phone number is 515-294-1923.

Dr. Sawyer is a farm native of Ohio. He has extensive experience with research station management and field research programming, and has more than 10 years of experience since receiving his doctoral degree from the University of Illinois. He served 3 years as an associate agronomist in the agronomy department at the University of Illinois where he conducted applied research and extension outreach in plant nutrient relationships and fertilizer use. For the past 7 years, he has been the manager of Agronomy Services, Growmark®, Inc., in Bloomington, Illinois, where he provided leadership in the delivery of soil fertility and nutrient management technical support, education programs, and information systems. Dr. Sawyer has been active on many state and national boards, including the Certified Crop Advisor Program and the Illinois Fertilizer Research and Education Council.
