Last week had many days with average or slightly cooler than average temperatures. Therefore, we recalculated the degree-day development of black cutworm on May 6. Development of black cutworms last week was slowed slightly but not enough to change the predictions for the dates of first cutting. We still anticipate that the first cutting will occur on May 10 in southern Iowa, May 13 in central Iowa, and May 18 for the northern counties. See last week's ICM newsletter for a map showing the distribution of cutting dates across the state.
