The presence of broadleaf weeds in corn has led many growers to consider late-season 2,4-D applications. The 2,4-D label used in the 1980s allowed application following the brown silk stage of corn; however, current labels restrict applications until the hard dough stage (denting). This delay in timing greatly reduces the effectiveness of these treatments in reducing weed seed production; thus, the benefit of these late-season treatments should be considered carefully.
