This information was summarized from a May 13 teleconference with ISU extension field specialists in crops.

• Most areas of the state had 1.5 to 3.5 inches of rainfall last week. Some ponding in the flat areas of fields and erosion in hilly areas resulted. Windy conditions slowed herbicide applications.
• Corn planting is almost complete, but emergence is slow. Much of the corn that has emerged is chlorotic (yellowish).
• Soybean planting ranges from 30 to 98 percent completed. Some emerged fields are attracting many bean leaf beetles.
• Cornfields with wireworms, true white grubs, flea beetles, and dingy cutworms were reported. Southern corn leaf beetles were feeding in some of the southern counties, but treatment was not necessary. Black cutworm caused pin-hole feeding in some fields, but no cutting of plants was reported.
• Alfalfa fields look good. In the southwestern counties, a few fields were treated for alfalfa weevil. In northwestern Iowa, an alfalfa field with pea aphids was reported.
