• Rainfall has been variable, with reports of a few tenths up to 6 inches. Tennis ball-size hail fell in Wayne County.
• Corn growth stage ranges from V2 to V6 across the state. The warm weather and sunshine have helped the crop develop its normal dark green color. Few pests have been reported. Several fields with areas of wireworms, true white grubs, or poor emergence have been replanted. Other pests reported in corn include stink bugs, billbugs, flea beetles, and black cutworms; most were not at treatable levels. Postemergence herbicides continue to be applied.
• Soybean planting is almost complete and growth stage ranges from not emerged to V2. Bean leaf beetles continue to feed, with some fields being treated.
• Alfalfa harvest continues with 20 to 50 percent cut. Some of the last year’s plantings are not yielding or looking as well as expected. Few insects were reported.
• Winter wheat looks good in the southern counties. Some oats are being harvested for forage.
