Crop Scouting Competition

High school students from across Iowa are invited to compete and showcase their scouting abilities in corn and soybean on August 5 at the Iowa State University Extension Farm. The competition will be a one day event with both indoor and outdoor components. The theme for this years competition is Crop Scouting Innovations. Monetary prizes will be awarded to winners. Field Scouting Basics Workshop

Tuesday, May 16, 2017 - 8:30am to 2:00pm

The Crop Scouting Field Basics Workshop is for interns scouting fields and reporting back to farmers, crop consultants, or others interested.

Registration check-in opens at 8:30 am and the workshop begins at 9:00 am. The workshop concludes at 2:00 pm. Optional Agricultural Handler Pesticide Safety training follows at 2:10 pm to 3:10 pm. SCN and Soybean Aphid Resistance Management Workshop

Thursday, August 17, 2017 - 8:30am to 4:15pm

The two most important pests that reduce soybean yield (nematodes and aphids) are evolving, becoming resistant to commonly used pest management tools. This workshop will provide research-based, sustainable pest management recommendations for the control of soybean cyst nematode and soybean aphid. Information provided will include updates on the status of resistant pest populations in Iowa and hands-on demonstrations of sampling and managing both pests.   

Field Diagnostic Clinic

Wednesday, July 12, 2017 - 8:30am to 4:30pm

The Field Diagnostic Clinic will be offered on July 12, 2017 at the Field Extension Education Laboratory (FEEL) outside of Ames. Registration check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. Opening comments will start at 8:55 a.m., and the program will conclude at 4:30 p.m.


Crop Management Clinic

Thursday, July 13, 2017 - 8:30am to 4:30pm

The Crop Management Clinic will be offered on July 13, 2017 at the Field Extension Education Laboratory (FEEL) west of Ames, Iowa. Registration check-in will open at 8:30 a.m. The program will start with opening comments at 8:55 am, and the clinic will adjourn at 4:30 p.m.


Crop Disease Clinic

Wednesday, August 16, 2017 - 8:30am to 4:30pm

The Crop Disease Clinic will be offered on August 16, 2017 at the Field Extension Education Laboratory (FEEL) outside of Ames. Registration check-in will start at 8:30 a.m. The program will begin with opening comments at 8:55 a.m. and will conclude at 4:30 p.m.


FREE 4R Plus Field Day

Tuesday, July 31, 2018 - 9:30am

"On July 31, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at ISU’s FEEL Farm near Boone, farmers, agronomists and other stakeholders will have the opportunity to hear from experts who will present ways to use the '4Rs,' plus conservation practices to achieve maximum profitability, yields and environmental stewardship. The day of learning is free, with lunch provided, and attendees participating the whole day can receive six continuing education (CEU) credits toward their certified crop adviser (CCA) certification."
