Position Open for Crop Education Intern

The Integrated Pest Management Unit is looking for an intern to assist with educational programing for K-12 youth. This intern would work with Maya Hayslett, the Crop Sciences Youth Educational Specialist, as part of the Americorps program. The purpose of this position is to help create and disseminate educational materials for youth on crop science topics. This person would be provided with training to create interactive online modules and then create 2-4 modules as part of a crop science curriculum. They would also be responsible for developing a training program and providing that training to interested educators. The person in this position would also teach youth by doing crops-related programs at outreach events. Other duties include assisting with writing curriculum and creating programs, helping to plan and execute crops related outreach events, and putting together materials needed for programs (organizing and ordering supplies). The person in this position can expect to learn about best teaching practices, both online and in-person teaching, through personal coaching, professional development opportunities, and direct experience.

This position starts as soon as possible and continues through August 31st, 2019. It is a half time position requiring 20 hours per week or 900 hours total. A monthly living allowance is provided. Upon successful completion of the internship, an education award is also given. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age and a US citizen.Experience with education, youth, and/or crop sciences are preferred.
