Crop Scouting Competition for Iowa Youth 2017

Introduction to IPMThe Iowa State University Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program is pleased to present the seventh annual Crop Scouting Competition for Iowa Youth. High school students (those completing grades 9-12) from Iowa are invited to compete and showcase crop scouting abilities in corn and soybean. The competition will be a one day event focusing on outdoor learning.

High school students from across Iowa are invited to compete and showcase their scouting abilities in corn and soybean on August 5 at the Iowa State University Extension Farm. The competition will be a one day event with both indoor and outdoor components. The theme for this years competition is Crop Scouting Innovations. Monetary prizes will be awarded to winners. High school students (those completing grades 9-12) from Iowa are invited to compete and showcase crop scouting abilities in corn and soybean. The competition will be a one day event focusing on outdoor learning. Sponsors include DuPont Pioneer, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Independent Crop Consultants Association, ScoutPro, Iowa Certified Crop Advisors, and Environmental Tillage Systems.

SCN and Soybean Aphid Resistance Management Workshop

Thursday, August 17, 2017 - 8:30am to 4:15pm

The two most important pests that reduce soybean yield (nematodes and aphids) are evolving, becoming resistant to commonly used pest management tools. This workshop will provide research-based, sustainable pest management recommendations for the control of soybean cyst nematode and soybean aphid. Information provided will include updates on the status of resistant pest populations in Iowa and hands-on demonstrations of sampling and managing both pests.   

2017 Integrated Crop Management Conference

The Integrated Crop Management Conference offers workshops focusing on the latest in crop production technology. Experts from Iowa and surrounding states will provide research updates and results in soil fertility, soil and water management, crop production and pest management. Attendees can choose from up to 7 topics each hour. This format allows you to customize your conference experience to meet your interests and CCA credit needs.

2014 Crop Scouting Competition Open to High School Students

AMES, Iowa — The Integrated Pest Management program at Iowa State University is hosting its fourth crop scouting competition on Aug. 5 for teams of Iowa high school students. Organizers announced the 2014 theme, Crop Scouting Innovations, this week along with extending an invitation to participate to teams of high school students (those completing grades 9-12).

Emerald Ash Borer Confirmed in Jasper County

DES MOINES – Emerald Ash Borer has been positively identified in a residential tree in Newton in Jasper County from a larva sample collected on March 20, 2014. EAB kills all ash tree species and is considered to be one of the most destructive tree pests ever seen in North America.
 

Emerald Ash Borer Found in Johnson County

EAB, emerald ash borerDES MOINES – An adult Emerald Ash Borer submitted by an Iowa City resident to the Iowa EAB Team has been positively identified as the destructive beetle by a federal identifier. A follow-up examination of ash trees growing in the vicinity of where the beetle was collected has failed to confirm an infestation.
