Monarchs on the Move Challenge

Cherokee, IA — Over 160 sixth graders from the Cherokee area (Ridge View, Cherokee, and Alta-Aurelia) participated in the sixth grade field day at Silver Sioux Recreation Center Friday, May 4, 2018. At the field day, youth experienced the Monarchs on the Move challenge, learning about the importance of monarch butterflies as pollinators in crop and food production. Students interacted with live monarch eggs, caterpillars, butterflies and chrysalises from the USDA monarch colony at Iowa State University.

Crop Scouting Competition

The Iowa State University Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program is pleased to present the ninth annual Crop Scouting Competition for Iowa Youth. Middle school and high school students (those completing grades 7-12) from Iowa are invited to compete and showcase crop scouting abilities in corn and soybean. The competition will be a one day event focusing on outdoor learning. Previous sponsors include Corteva, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Independent Crop Consultants Association, ScoutPro, Iowa Certified Crop Advisors, and Environmental Tillage Systems.

Drone Uses for Agriculture Roadshow

AMES, Iowa – Farmers and anyone within the agricultural industry who wants to know more about how drones can be used on their operation should consider attending the “Drone Uses for Agriculture Roadshow,” Aug. 13 at Iowa State University’s Field Extension Education Lab (FEEL).

These small, unmanned aircraft systems, most commonly called “drones,” give farmers a unique and efficient means of monitoring their operation from above.
