Muhammad Mohsin Raza, a graduate research assistant at Iowa State University in the Plant Pathology and Microbiology department, discusses his research project in this video. Sudden death syndrome is one of the major yield-limiting diseases of soybean and has widely spread across soybean producing states in the U.S. Every year; farmers suffer substantial yield losses due to this disease. Because of the limited understanding of the impact of SDS on soybean yield, it makes it difficult for farmers to decide whether or not to apply management tactics.
The Harrison County Pest Resistance Management Project is bringing together local members of the agricultural community to preserve management tools while battling resistance. Learn more from this recap of the 2018 Soybean Field Day.
Monica Pennewitt, Iowa State University graduate student, discusses her research on soybean cyst nematode. The soybean cyst nematode (SCN) or Heterodera glycines is the most damaging pathogen to soybean production in North America. Current annual yield losses are estimated at more than $1.2 billion.Though SCN-resistant soybean varieties are available to minimize yield loss, producers are faced with limited options for rotation once virulent SCN populations develop in their fields.
The Iowa State University Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program is pleased to present the ninth annual Crop Scouting Competition for Iowa Youth. Middle school and high school students (those completing grades 7-12) from Iowa are invited to compete and showcase crop scouting abilities in corn and soybean. The competition will be a one day event focusing on outdoor learning. Previous sponsors include Corteva, Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Independent Crop Consultants Association, ScoutPro, Iowa Certified Crop Advisors, and Environmental Tillage Systems.

Daren Mueller discusses fungicide resistance in soybean with the main focus for disease being frogeye leaf spot and brown spot.
