Outreach for Harrison County includes field days, presentations a local events, videos and news articles. Handouts have been distributed at local retailers and county events (Harrison County crop fair, Private Pesticide Applicator Training, Denison/Atlantic Crop Advantage Series). The project has been mentioned or promoted at the local crop fair, local extension events, and the county extension board meetings.

Field Scouting Basics Workshop | May 15, 2014
High school students from across Iowa are invited to compete and showcase their scouting abilities in corn and soybean on August 5 at the Iowa State University Extension Farm. The competition will be a one day event with both indoor and outdoor components. The theme for this years competition is Crop Scouting Innovations. Monetary prizes will be awarded to winners. This regional field day features key researchers and specialists participating in the North Central Soybean Research Program discussing ongoing research and recommendations for managing soybean aphid. The Integrated Crop Management Conference offers over 30 different seminars and workshops focusing on the latest in crop production technology. Experts from Iowa and surrounding states will provide research updates and results in soil fertility, soil and water management, crop production and pest management. The Crop Scouting Field Basics Workshop is for interns scouting fields and reporting back to farmers, crop consultants, or others interested.
Registration check-in opens at 8:30 am and the workshop begins at 9:00 am. The workshop concludes at 2:00 pm. Optional Agricultural Handler Pesticide Safety training follows at 2:10 pm to 3:10 pm. The two most important pests that reduce soybean yield (nematodes and aphids) are evolving, becoming resistant to commonly used pest management tools. This workshop will provide research-based, sustainable pest management recommendations for the control of soybean cyst nematode and soybean aphid. Information provided will include updates on the status of resistant pest populations in Iowa and hands-on demonstrations of sampling and managing both pests.
The 9th International IPM Symposium will be held March 19-22, 2018 at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel, 202 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. The symposium will begin with the Opening Session on Monday, March 19, 5:00-7:00 pm, featuring a keynote talk by Dr. Dini Miller, Virginia Tech, and presentation of the 2018 IPM Achievement Awards.
